Aircraft

Aviation archaeology is a relatively new field of study. This field offers unique glimpses of history because many of the sunken aircraft sites are relatively recent (<100 years old), the technology is contemporary enough to include background information about the aircraft, and in some cases the pilots or members of their family are still alive to share stories about the about the crewmembers and the accident. The ability to combine first-hand (or second-hand) accounts of what was going on at the time of the crash with exploration of the downed aircraft provides special cultural connections to these wreck sites.
